Helo Mr
I have very little knowledge of cars and I would like to learn more. I am very happy that I hvae stumbled upon your site.
I have a 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan. I bought it just about a month ago and it has just over 100,000 miles on it.
It was running fine for about two weeks and the transmission leaked the red oil, so the garage where I bought the car from repaired the transmission. Now two weeks down the road, I find that sometimes my gears would slip. If I put the gear on Reverse, sometimes it does not catch and the engine just reve. When I am driving, sometimes the gear would to to Neutral and the car does not go forward. And I had to stop and put the gear in place, but sometimes it just takes a while before it catches. ON Reverse, I had to put the car on Drive and then back to Reverse before it would work.
I will take my car back to the garage. But I hope you don't mind explaining to me what are the possible problems when the gears act like that.
I prefer to get an explanation from an independant expert like you rather than listening to the crap the garage sometimes trying to pull over me.
Your help is greatly appreciated
H.

That sounds like the transmission is low on fluid - especially if it drops into neutral when you're going around a curve and doesn't want to engage first thing in the morning.
Check the trans fluid with the engine warm and running.
Let me know what happens!

I took the car back to the garage and they kept it for half a day and told me that it would cost over $500.00 to fix the problem.
I told them I will think about it. So I took the car to another place and ask them to check the transmission fluid.
They said it is low and they filled it up and I don't have that problem anymore.
You are a genius because those guys at the garage were talking about taking the whole transmission down, but actually pin point the problem from just my description of the symptoms.
Hey, man, you are a life saver
I really appreciate your help
Thanks again
H.
