I just bought a 97 Escort, and got it all cleaned up and running great - yesterday. Today the speedometer was dead and it would not shift right. If it were not for your writeup on the dead ford escort speedometer I would have been stuck for quite a while.
Your article found an issue with the connector where 6 wires connect to battery minus for various system grounds. Well, mine had already been redone, with 3 wires in each of 2 large crimp connectors. One slight pull and they fell out. Needless to say I redid it all with soldered on connectors. Now it is working great. Thanks again!
I wonder how many escorts are in the junkyard because of that connector.
My 93 escort has 163000 miles on it, but I was offered the 97 with half the mileage and no rust for $1200.00, so it was kind of hard to pass up. Hopefully the 97 is as faithful as the 93.
Thanks again for generously sharing your knowledge.
