Hi,
I have a Honda Civic LX (2001) auto transmission with 95,000 miles on it. I was driving on the highway recently and the flex plate went. This was 5 months after I had the transmission replaced. How often do flex plates go on auto transmissions (can't find anything on the web, all articles I have found relate to manual)?
Could the flex plate problem be related to the transmission problem I had 5 months ago.
Thanks!
Myles

The flex plate is called the flex plate because it has to flex every time you accelerate - the torque converter expands slightly, and the flex plate allows this to happen. Over time, some flex plates crack. It's not inevitable that all of them will, but some of them do, and it isn't so terribly unusual.
