I just bought a 1998 Acura CL 3.0 with auto trans and it runs smooth and
strong.  it has directional tires but the two in the front are different than
the two in the rear. when i accelerate or decelerate i hear a humming noise and
sounds just like the tires. since it's automatic transmission  i put it in
nuetral the next time i slowed to a stop to see if the noise might be the trans.
the noise is still there. Could two different sets of direction tires make this
noise? i checked tran fluids and it's perfect and pink.  car shifts smooth.
just this anoying noise between 25-30mph then i fades away.

Try switching the engine off (trans in neutral) with the noise present and
you'll get an additional piece of data.

Are you sure the tires aren't reversed?

The email indicates you may have replaced the tires but still have the noise.
When you swerve gently from one side to the other, check to see if the noise
comes and goes with the swerving... that's another useful piece of
information.

If it's not too objectionable, I wouldn't worry too much about it -
just pay attention if it starts getting worse.

Richard, excellent advice.  I did several things.  As you recommended, I put transmission in N and turned off the engine and definately the same noise is what i heard all the way to a dead stop.  Its like being in a truck with this tire noise.  I also drove the car and swerved L/R and heard the noise change sound.  Finally, I changed the rear tires to the front and fronts to the rear and interestingly the noise now is heard at higher speeds as opposed to before when I heard it mostly around 25-30mph.  It's definitely the tires.  Whether it's the mix of two different brands or maybe it's just because they are directional type tires.  It's not that loud of a noise I'm just used to having a quiet ride. BTW the tires were and are installed in the correct direction.  the fronts are Sunny 3800 and the rears are Bridgestone Potenza 009.  all 4 are 205 55r16.  i'm looking for a quiet ride and don't care about the handling.  Would you recommend an all season Grand Touring tire?
Thanks

Actually, I'm not sure which tire would be least likely to make noise on that car - tires can be so annoying that way.
Check with a really GOOD tire shop and talk to their most knowledgeable - tell him/her what your primary concern is and see what they tell you.  Another source of good info might be a high volume Acura dealer where that kind of concern has been dealt with a lot.
Thanks for your followup... glad to help!
