Hi Richard,
I did a motor swap out on my commanche and am
having a backfiring issue with it. (as soon as the throttle is brought up it
starts running bad and missfires) I changed cps to no avail. I did notice at tdc
the timing notch on the flywheel doesn't line up? It's way before tdc! Is this
right? I thought the flywheel only went on one way. Am I wrong? (I have the auto
flywheel with three notches)
Thanks for your time and help!
Michael

You
need to bring the balancer up to zero degrees TDC (#1 compression, NOT exhaust),
then set the distributor so that the rotor is just passing the #1 firing post -
the distributor turns clockwise and the #1 post is marked on the cap. You have
a rotor alignment problem, that's all.
That
timing notch is 90 degrees before TDC....
