I dropped my 2003 auto se1
grand am 125K highway miles off at the shop this Friday and told/test drove with the
mechanics to hear this combo of a
grinding/ dragging sound my baby makes ..
You can hear it best with you foot off gas..
Noise more loud close to when
it should up or down shift.. most
audible between 10-35 mph....
ALSO YOU CAN FEEL IT like a vibration under driver and passenger feet....
Like the
top of a T..... not constant..
But more
and more often...(no tranny fluid leaking, no real noticable tranny misbehavior... .. NOW, they kept
swearing it was the wheel bearing so I
let them replace it but KNEW they were wrong....
#1 I drove it 10 feet after they "fixed it" and it
was STILL MAKING THE NOISE AND #2 THEY CHARGED ME 400+ TO CHANGE 1 FRONT WHEEL
BEARING (robbery)...
So I have to go
pick my car up and get it to someone....
WHAT IS THIS noise and vibration/ what could it be?????? Here are
some fact s that may make a difference:
I had the same people I am worried about do a tranny flush last
month( wrong fluid??) also they "replaced shocks/ struts"(loose??)..
and in aug new brakes..
What could it be ? I heard the terms
(from sister) spider gears,,, shift differential, drive line component,
transmission,motor /tranny mounts.. gosh
ANY Help i WILL BE SOOOO GRATEFUL!!!!!
Whatever it is, that shop should fix it... I'd at least go back there
and make them account for why they charged you $400 and why your car still
isn't fixed.
That'd be a small claims court deal it it was me.
Hold the first shop's feet to the fire....
Let me know what they say.

I’m
thinking they didn't have the expertise to diagnose the problem.. and
tried to pass it off as just the wheel bearing and for a Timken wheel
bearing they charged 327.99 with a 65.00 discount to end up
charging 262.99 not 119.00 for the bearing like the same part
number and all at AutoZone..
labor took like 15 minutes and they charged 2
hours....
so i went and got the car, took it to a different tranny
shop, took owner for test ride, and he even seems a bit
confused..
wondering if this is an odd problem......not usual....
will try to
ask first shop owner again to rectify that overbilling or billing in
general......
but they just keep saying well it needed a wheel bearing
too.......so that work was necessary and correct they said......
(but I think
the wheel bearing was old but fine for now)...
new guy is looking at possible
cracked but not yet fully broken sway bar... or ??? he's a bit stymied too...
have one more place to take it...
wish me luck and thanks for responding it's
very appreciated!!!
The fact remains that the first shop
didn't repair your concern but charged you a lot of money. That's
irritating.
Richard
IT
really is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went back and they told me they can charge
whatever mark up they like for their parts...
and that I AGREE TO CHANGE THE
PART SO I owe....( but why wouldn't I agree I thought they were experts).. and
paid.....
may the good lord take care of them at a later date.....or
sooner....lolol......
going to write a few letters and it the AG office..
to try
to get at least 100 back....car is at another shop now running tests and told
me they'd let me know in the am...
the Irish say "may the cat eat you
and the devil eat the cat"... I may put that on a Christmas card and send
it to the buggers... I'll let cha know what this new shop says.....
