Hi everyone,

I have a 1989 190e Mercedes Benz, Recently I been having problems with My ABS (Anti Lock Braking system), the light turns on after 3 min. and it lowers my RPM and if I dont keep pumping the gas it eventually dies...if I turn off my car and turn it back on, the ABS light is still on and does the same...

I havent done anything on it, mainly because I dont want to spend alot of money on the wrong part to replace.

*Hints*: My brake censors are still the original since 1989, All of My brake pads and Rotors are really worn out (was gonna replace those anyways), My A.C. unit dont work, Smog guy told me my Catalytic converter almost needs replacing... I'm just typing down everything wrong with it cuz i'm not really a mechanic guy... THNX

Customer Concern: ABS MIL on, hard start at times. At times idle speed is erratic.
Tests/Procedures: 1. Remove the air cleaner, disconnect or backprobe the connector on the start injector by the cylinder head at #3 intake port. Using a Digital Multimeter (DMM), check for battery voltage (B+) at the Red/Blue (RD/BL) wire at the start injector both Key On Engine Off (KOEO) and Key On Engine Cranking (KOEC).

2. To bypass the overvoltage protection relay, located behind the battery, unplug the relay and attach a fused jumper wire (15A) from the relay socket pin 30 to however many pin 87 outputs there are at the relay socket (depends on application). Retest for symptom.

Tech Tips: The overvoltage protection relay protects the computer, utilizing a Zener Diode. The relay is designed to go open when system voltage spikes in excess of 20V. This can happen during a jump start or battery charge. The relay contacts can also stick or become corroded.
