i start the engine and there is smoke that comes from the tube that hooks up to the manifold and the heat damper but the car ran fine tell the car when through a very large puddle of water why

Okay, this is kind of tough to sort out... Let's see if I get this right.

You have smoke coming from a tube (which may have cracked because it was hot and was doused with water).

The tube and/or fitting probably needs to be replaced.

the flexable tin tube looks in good shape but there is smoke that comes from the tin tube that connects to the manifold and the air cleaner housing. the water puddle did come up to the bottom of the doors could it be that the catalytic converter be pluged. the car did die after the water puddle and know i have a hard time keeping it running. i have talked to many Mechanic but no one can tell me anything about it. Thank you for your time

Check the ignition system to see if the distributor cap got wet (moisture will appear on the underside when you remove it.)

I agree to what Junius said I just the things that he said. So maybe you should follow it. I tried it and it really work. No doubt about it.
