Need engine swap 1 Year, 5 Months ago Karma: 0  
Bought a 48 Plymouth with a 1982 chrysler 318 engine with a 727 automatic trans. Car has $14,000 invested to date but I want to swap out to a better engine. Due to the fact drivetrain was custom built I want to keep same trans if possible. If not will re-do driveshaft. Any imput would help. Due to the economy money is tight so please keep this in mind. Thanks for all imput.

Not sure what you mean by 'better engine.' Do you mean a better 318 or an engine better than a 318?

Holding onto the 727 trans is somewhat restrictive in regard to changing engine platforms.

Do you not want another 318? A 360 would fit if you want more pumping power.
